Besides being 4-year Defensive starter at the prep level, Coach Saul holds all-time records as a player in Tackles, Sacks and Tackles-for-loss at Rainier Beach HS in Seattle, Washington where his jersey #33 has been retired for his on and off the field accomplishments.
At the University of Oregon he continued as a 4-year Defensive starter for the Ducks, finishing his collegiate career as the school’s all-time Tackles-for-loss record holder and 3rd in Sacks all-time. Patu also graduated with his undergraduate degree in Education with a focus on Intervention within the school’s Family and Human Services Program.
After college, Patu spent 8-years total as a professional athlete in the National Football League and Arena Football League with the New York Jets, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, Colorado Crush and Columbus Destroyers, respectively. Coach Saul is also a lifetime member of the prestigious NFLPA.
Coach Saul has worked with youth in educational and community settings as well as serving as a coach and mentor for student-athletes at all levels. As a player and coach, he has over 20 years of combined experience at the youth, prep, college and professional levels of football.
Coach Saul is married to former UofO standout softball player, formally Alana Burns and they have four children that are student-athletes. Niah, a freshman basketball player at Saint Martin’s University, Orin, a junior football & basketball player at Sheldon HS, Ari, a freshman football & basketball player at Sheldon HS, and Kayo, a 6th grade football, basketball, baseball and track athlete.
